St. Patrick Church Link Addition

Kennett Square

EAGER TO SERVE FUTURE GENERATIONS of parishioners as well as the Kennett Square community, St. Patrick Church investigated implementing a Link addition to provide a covered connection from the church to the parish school. The concept of a Link addition aimed to contribute to the long-term viability of the church, making it and the school more accessible and allowing the school to be better utilized. Archer & Buchanan Architecture was engaged to prepare a design to address the needs of the parish, sympathetically connect the church and school, and enhance the courtyard and the street presence of the church property on an historic street in the urban fabric of downtown Kennett Square. Specific requests by parishioners included a larger and more inviting narthex, an accessible restroom at the ground level of the church, a sheltered entry that is welcoming in inclement weather, and a covered path connecting to the school building. Through a series of collaborative meetings conducted with the Pastor and church community representatives, design options were discussed and narrowed to a solution that satisfies all goals. As part of our scope of work, photorealistic renderings were developed to support the church in their efforts to raise funds for the realization of the project. The Link addition is the second project accomplished by Archer & Buchanan for the parish following a full interior renovation of the church completed previously.
