St. John Neumann Church
Bryn Mawr
When considering an interior renovation to St. John Neumann Church in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the parish approached Archer & Buchanan with a broad but simple task: to beautify the interior of their outdated, 60’s-era church, currently a gymnasium-like open plan of glue-laminated beams. Our proposed interior renovation completely re-envisions the space by working around existing framing to introduce a new design rooted in the traditions of church architecture. A new arched wood coffered ceiling, textured plaster walls, carved wood columns, and a patterned marble tile floor mask or replace the existing sanctuary and choir loft structures, veneered walls, and wall-to-wall carpet with minimal disturbance to the structural shell of the building. Updated mechanical, lighting and AV systems also are incorporated into the project. Ultimately, the interior renovation of St. John Neumann Church revitalizes the structure with a rich, timeless and beautiful interior appropriate for a house of worship and for serving the parish today and into the future.
